How To Build A Wooden Mailbox?

|

Every home needs a mailbox. Building a wooden mailbox is a simple and affordable project. Start by measuring the height and width of the area you want to put the mailbox. Determine the height and width of the box. Cut two pieces of 2x4x8 lumber to these dimensions. Lay the lumber down on a flat surface and drill pilot holes into the wood with a 1/8″ drill bit. Attach the two pieces of lumber together with 3″ wood screws. Drill a 1/2″ hole in the center of the mailbox. Place a strip of wood on the inside of the box that is 1/2″ wide and tall enough to fit snugly in the hole. Screw it in place with 1 1/2″ wood screws. Cut a piece of 1x4x8 lumber to length and attach it to the inside of the box with 1 1/2″ wood screws. You will want to make sure that the top of the 1x4x8 is flush with the top of the box. If you are attaching a mail slot, attach it to the front of the box before you attach the front to the box. Drill a hole in the side of the box and use a screwdriver to attach a knob or handle. Drill two holes in the back of the box and attach two hinges with 2″ screws. You will want to drill two more holes on the opposite side of the box for a lock, or you can use a small piece of wood to cover up the holes.
